With the Toyota University Cricket Championship all set to begin, former Indian players are putting their weight behind their favourite teams. Indian left-arm spinner Murali Kartik was one of them as Jiwaji University, Gwalior (Western Wizards), Jamia Millia Islamia, Delhi (Northern Stars) and the Aligarh Muslim University (Northern Stallions) were the beneficiaries of the coaching tips from the Railways star.

Referring to University cricket as one of the finest moments of his cricketing life, Kartik said, "I remember playing for Hindu College (Delhi University) and the passion of going out with your pals is altogether different."
Kartik also gave some valuable fielding tips to the youngsters. Citing one of the finest fielders in modern cricket, Ricky Ponting, he guided the UCC stars. Demonstrating practically on the field, he said, "Whenever you field the ball always align your body with the stumps. As a fielder, you should never throw off balance."
Then followed the most important and learning part for all the players as a net-session ensued. While Kartik himself tested a few batsmen's technique with his wily orthodox deliveries, he also imparted his knowledge on spin bowling to a few aspirants.
He also told an aspiring player that warm-up is much required before actual match. From going close to the stumps and bowling to delivery action to imparting spin on the bowl, Kartik offered lots of encouragement.
"I enjoyed a lot with you guys and it was good to remember my own University days. The 'Ab hamari baari hai' tagline suits all of you well. All the best for the tournament," concluded Kartik.
