Bangalore:

Former Indian speedster Venkatesh Prasad feels responsibility comes naturally to team members representing a college cricket team. "You don't have to define anything. Team bonding comes first," Prasad said in Bengaluru on Thursday.

Prasad, who coaches the Uttar Pradesh Ranji Trophy team, felt University or college cricket was fun and unlike first-class teams where "players have to be told what to do." The camaraderie in college teams, no matter which class you came from, is something to note.

The former Indian pacer, who has been the bowling coach of the national team, was all praise for the Toyota University Cricket Championship.

"It's a great platform for University teams to play at Test venues (like Chinnaswamy Stadium) and under lights. We never dreamt of this in the Nineties," Prasad said, adding cricket on live television is a super booster.

Prasad praised the Jain University authorities for promoting sports, said: "You need the support and understanding of your college. Jain have been outstanding in this regard and that is why they have such a good cricket team."
