Zafar Iqbal to Aligarh lads: Ab tumhari baari hai

India's 1980 Moscow Olympics gold medal winner and former hockey captain Zafar Iqbal has wished the Aligarh Muslim University team all the best for the upcoming Toyota University Cricket Championship starting on Saturday.

One of Aligarh Muslim University's sporting alma mater Zafar Iqbal has joined in the University cricket bandwagon as a supporter of NDTV's initiative - Toyota University Cricket Championship.

"I wish my AMU team all the very best for the tournament," the former India skipper said on Thursday in chit chat with NDTV.

Iqbal, who after winning gold in the Moscow Summer Olympics in 1980, captained the Indian team in the 1982 Asian Games and the 1983 Champions Trophy, before leading the team to 5th position in the 1984 Olympics.

The 56-year-old was also awarded the Arjuna Award - India's highest sporting honour - in 1993 and coached the senior team from 1993-94. In 2012, he was awarded the Padma Shri and now works as manager for Indian Airlines and is one of the national selectors.

The Aligarh Muslim University outfit are named Northern Stallions in the TUCC and are led by 26-year-old right-handed batsman Imran Saleem.

AMU take on Jain University Bangalore in their first game at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 28.

"My message to the AMU team is 'boys you must give your best and I am sure you are going to win the University Cricket Championship. Ab tumhari baari hai," he said with a chirpy smile.
